OBITUARY: Mrs. Garnett Maxine Lutz
Mrs. Garnett Maxine Lutz, 89, of Topeka formerly of Silver Lake, died Sun., Oct. 29, 2006, at Clare Bridge of Topeka. She was born Dec. 1, 1916, at Adrian, the daughter of Ira A. and Floye E. (Murrow) Wood.
Garnett was a member of the First Baptist Church of Silver Lake and the Fiddlers and Pickers of Kansas. She was a home decorator and also a seamstress. She loved sewing and crafts. Garnett was also a fiddler and formed a band with her sisters. The band played for Senior Citizens groups and put on shows to help build the Silver Lake Senior Citizens Building.
She was married to Lester Lutz for 52 years. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1988. Garnett was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carol E. Krogman-Wallace, on Jan. 31, 1997; a grandson, Korey Simecka; 3 brothers: Stephen Wood, Merle Wood, and Wayne Wood; and a sister: Margie DeBacker.
Surviving are a daughter: Joyce A. Simecka of Boulder City, NV; 4 sisters: Terry Perry of Topeka, Vickie Foster of Olathe, Sally Smith of Topeka, and Eva Stout of Spring Hill, FL; a sister-in-law: Betty Wood of Topeka; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thurs., Nov. 2, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence. Interment will be in Delia Cemetery. Garnett will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Wed., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
