Galen Lynn Simon
Galen Lynn Simon, 53, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
He was born February 25, 1957 Quinter, KS, to Delmar and June (Barnett) Simon.
Galen graduated from Hoxie High School in 1975. He married Karen Ritter on April 23, 1977 in Selden, KS.
Galen worked for Sheridan County Road Department, State Highway Department, and Kansas Department of Agriculture. He also worked for the Kansas Children's Service League on weekends taking care of boys. He received the Kansas Hall of Fame Award for his accomplishment with the boys.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Simon of the home; three daughters, Jennifer (Chad) Henry, Kristy Simon and other half Alex Tituana all of Topeka and Janel Simon and fiancé Jay Jessen of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren, Ashley, Bryce, Erik, Alexia and Sakota; a brother, Dennis (Fely) Simon of Peoria, AZ and a sister, Sandra (Bob) Bainter of Hays, KS and numerous nieces and nephews and many more friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jerry Simon.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, 730 Fairlawn Rd, Topeka. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Simon will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Children's Service League, 3545 SW 5th St., Topeka, KS 66606 .
