Freda Elizabeth Seckinger
Freda Elizabeth Seckinger, 64, Topeka, made the transition to eternal life to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 20, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Aug. 10, 1939, in Herpel, Ark., to William and Neatie Beatrice Barham Thornton. Freda attended school in Mountainview, Ark., and Topeka. She owned and operated The Snippery Hair Salon. Freda was a devoted wife and mother. She married Bobby Seckinger on Feb. 17, 1967, in Topeka. He survives, of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Wanda Thornton, Topeka; Debbie Moore and companion, Billy Ray Auton, Topeka; Diane Morgan, Topeka; and Shirley Chapman and husband, Duane, Tecumseh; one son, Gary Seckinger, Topeka; her mother, Neatie Beatrice Thornton Beard, Topeka; two sisters, Linda Koch and husband, Maurice, Hoyt; Dorothy D.J. Day and husband, Gary, Topeka; two brothers, Bill and Brenda Thornton, Topeka, and Harry and Ruby Thornton, Tecumseh; seven grandchildren; three great-grandc hildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Nevill II; and her father, William Ollie Thornton. Mrs. Seckinger will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka after 3 p.m. today, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel.
