OBITUARY: Fred Raymond Mossman
Fred Raymond Mossman, 85, of Topeka, KS, died Wed. afternoon, March 15, 2006, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born on Sept. 7,1920 in Hamilton, KS. He was one of three children born to Fred R. and Cora C. (Clark) Mossman. He graduated from Topeka High School and furthered his education to be a machinist in New Jersey.
Sgt. Fred Mossman was a navigator in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He started working for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after the war and retired from Goodyear.
He attended Northland Christian Church and was a member of United Steel Workers AFL-CIO Local Union No. 307; Oskaloosa Lodge # 14, A.F. & A.M.; and Arab Shrine Temple. He enjoyed flying and was a pilot. He also enjoyed fishing, water skiing, traveling, and helping with the pit crew for John Kearney's Outlaw Racing Team.
Mr. Mossman was married to June Marie Eckerle on Sept. 6, 1952, in Topeka, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Carol Rogers, and her husband, Harold Rogers; his grandson, Chris Rogers, and his wife, Julie; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Phyllis Glogau of San Antonio,TX and Thelma DeGraff of Topeka.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Mon., March 20, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Mossman will lie in state after 12:00 noon Sunday at the funeral chapel.
