Frederick Joseph Abel

Frederick J. Abel, age 85, of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 in Topeka.  Fred was born September 29, 1936 in Norfolk, Nebraska the son of Frederick and Rose Mary (Conner) Abel.  Fred served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.   He returned to Topeka and worked at the ATSF Railroad, retiring on September 30, 1996 after working there over 30 years.  Fred worked at Turner Amusement, restoring pinball machines.   He was an FCC-qualified and licensed ham radio operator.  His call letters where KSQU.  He was a member of Post #400 of the American Legion.

He married Georgia Hoffman and they were married for over for over 50 years. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughter Lisa Robinson (Bill) of Topeka and David Abel (Sandra) of Carbondale; two grandsons, Dalton and Garrett, also survive.

Fred was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Conner.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Davidson Funeral Home.   Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.   Memorial contributions may be made to Post #421 of the American Legion.
