OBITUARY: Franklin D. "Dude" Binney
Franklin D. "Dude" Binney, 86, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Hays Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1918 at Maple Hill, KS the son of Robert Lawrence and Alva Mae (Look) Binney.
He had lived in Topeka until 1960 when he moved to Mobile, AL; moving to Midwest City, OK in 1965. He returned to Topeka in 1980. He attended grade school in Maple Hill; Rossville and Silver Lake, Kansas and Lincoln Junior High in Topeka.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and held the rank of P.F.C. He was assigned to the Army Air Corps and served in the Yukon. He was a U.S. Government Civil Service air craft mechanic for 37 years before retiring on July 5, 1980. At the time of his retirement he held the position of W.G. 7 in the T.F. 30 jet engine build-up.
He was a member of the Bethel Apostolic Church, Capitol Post # 1 of the American Legion and the I.O.O. F. Lodge in Oklahoma.
He was married to Alice F. McKinley on April 24, 1943 at Oskaloosa, KS. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 1998. He is survived by:
Son: Jack Lynn Binney , Topeka;
Daughters: Linda Sue Cornelius, Del City, OK;
Sally Anne Windel , Hays;
Several Grandchildren, and several Great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thurs., Feb. 10, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Military honors will be conducted by a Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail at Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Binney will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
