Francis Wesley "Frank" Stansell
Francis Wesley "Frank" Stansell, 73, Valley Falls, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born April 1, 1940, in Nortonville, the son of Asbury Wesley and Rhoda Victoria (Bowman) Stansell.
Frank graduated from Nortonville High School in 1958. He then served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He worked for DuPont for 23 years before retiring. He then worked at Wilcox R.V. Center and Commerce Bank and Trust.
He was a member of the Great Life Golf and Fitness at Lake Perry. Frank was an avid golfer. He suffered a heart attack at Lake Perry Golf Club on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, shortly after making his putt for birdie.
He was married to Jacqueline Sue Bond in 1963. They were divorced. He was married to Linda Janell (Arthur) Lassiter on June 15, 1990, at Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Surviving are his wife: Linda Stansell of the home, Valley Falls; two sons: Francis Alan Stansell, Sr. (Linda) of Leavenworth and Scott Edward Stansell, Sr. (Peggy) of Topeka; a step-son: David Lassiter of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren: Francis Alan Stansell, Jr. of Council Grove, Scott Edward Stansell, Jr. of the U.S. Air Force, and Melena Margaret Stansell of Topeka; two great-grandchildren; and six sisters: Alpha of Lawrence, Jean (Paul) of Silver Lake, Irma of Waterville, Margaret (Don) of Nortonville, Rita of Nortonville, and Kay (Tom) of Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: George, Luther, and Jim; a sister: Eva Lee; and a step-son: Brett Lassiter.
Frank will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
Private interment in Valley Falls Cemetery.
