Francis R. Markham, 84, of Topeka, went to join his wife, Shirley, on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in the comfort of his home.
He was born August 10, 1928 in Westmoreland, KS, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Turley) Markham.
He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WW II.
Mr. Markham was life-long truck driver and a member of Teamsters Local Union No. 696, Topeka. He also raised Arabian Horses, an avid gardener and coin collector.
Francis married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Magers on March 23, 1946, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death on November 2, 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy A. Kampsen-Urton and Sue Dillon-Biggs, and her husband, Gregg, all of Topeka; three grandchildren, Michelle Dowding, Tim Kampsen and Kimberly, Portwood; and six great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Jim and Harold "Mutt" Markham; and two sisters, Margaret and Mary.
Honoring his request, Francis was cremated. The family will receive friends as a celebration of his life from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Family Center, 1940 NW Central Ave, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice of Kansas, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606. Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel is assisting the family.
