Francis James "Jim" Armstrong
Francis James "Jim" Armstrong, 72, Silver Lake, died Sunday, November 22, 2015, at his home. He was born February 13, 1943, at Wetmore. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Ammas Armstrong; and his mother, Ruby Veda Janet (Deahl) Armstrong Marx.
Jim graduated from Hoyt High School. He served in the U.S. Army from May 27, 1961 to May 26, 1964. He worked as a carman/welder in the Santa Fe Shops for 39 years before retiring.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Silver Lake, Santa Fe Old Timers Club, and Capital Post # 1, of the American Legion.
Jim was married to Marilyn Ann Meggison on February 14, 1964, at Holton.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Ann Armstrong of the home; three children: Laurie Gaines (Chris) of Schell City, MO, Jimmy Armstrong (Lisa) of Wylie, TX, and Jodi McKinney (Claude) of Topeka; two brothers: Jack Armstrong (Vera) of Topeka and Vern Armstrong (Cindy) of Rossville; and two grandsons: Aaron Gaines of Schell City, MO and Spencer Armstrong of Wylie, TX.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 28, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka followed by military honors conducted by a Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail. Cremation will follow with private interment of cremains in Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th & Menoken Road, Topeka.
Jim will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Friday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
