Frances E. Mapes

Frances E. Mapes, age 101, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the Presbyterian Manor in Topeka.  Frances was born February 9, 1921 the daughter of Alfred and Laura (Barney) Vawter.  She attended school in Meriden.  She married Benjamin Montague, they later divorced.  She married Delbert Mapes.  He preceded her in death.  Frances worked as a nurse’s aide at Stormont Vail and St. Francis Hospitals.  She had attended Mayetta Community Church and Northland Christian Church.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, antiques and Christmas ornaments.

Frances is survived by a son, Darrell Montague of Topeka; two daughters, Ethel Marie Victor of Bernicia, California and Barbara J. Shannon of Kim, Colorado; a stepdaughter, Cathy Hartley of Holton and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by children, Gary Montague, Faye Gaither, David Montague, Ben Montague, Marsha Miller and Judy Ann Mannarino; a stepson, Delbert Mapes, Jr., and several brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery.  She will lie in state Wednesday from noon – 5:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.
