OBITURY: Foster Charles Hoover
Foster Charles Hoover, 85, of Lawrence, formerly of Topeka, died Fri., June 18, 2010. He was born July 17, 1924, in Douglas County, the son of Otis and Jessie (Rhodehamel) Hoover. He graduated from Overbrook Rural High School. Foster was a WW II U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS Adhara AK-71. He had lived in Topeka for 40 years before moving to Lawrence 6 years ago. He had worked at Haskell Institute, Topeka Supply Depot, and Forbes A.F.B. He retired as heating plant manager from Winter General V.A. Hospital. He was a life member of Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion and Philip Billard Post # 1650, VFW. Dad loved his family, was a friend to many, and an avid fisherman who told big fish stories. Foster was married to Dorothy L. Markley on Aug. 4, 1946, in Olathe. She preceded him in death in July, 1972. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Hoover in April, 1995; his parents; a sister: Alberta Hoover; and a brother Melvin Hoover. Surviving are a daughter: Connie Detweiler (Dennis) of Lawrence; a son: Ronald Hoover (Gwen) of Olathe; a sister: Margaret Hoover of Lawrence; 2 brothers: Arthur Hoover (Ella) of Topeka and Marion Hoover (Carol) of Niceville, FL; 3 grandchildren Darcy Lawler, Kimberly Hoover, and Tammy Arp; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Thurs., June 24, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion will conduct military honors at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Foster will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wed., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
