Forrest "Jay" Skidmore, 79, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
Jay was born February 3, 1932 in Osage City, the son of Robert and Bertha (Bronson) Skidmore. He graduated from Osage City High School in 1950 and Washburn University in 1962.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He worked for Topeka Transfer & Storage, and the State of Kansas, Department of Administration, as an Accountant, retiring in 1982.
He was an active member of the North Topeka Baptist Church, and the American Legion Post of Osage City. He enjoyed Canoeing, Softball, Bowling, Youth Baseball, and clowning as "JAYMO" at parades and birthday parties.
Jay married Nina Ham on July 1, 1952 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include son, Forrest Skidmore II, Topeka; daughter, Valerie "Muff" McGee and husband, Ronald, Yates Center; grandchildren, Melanie McGee, Lincoln, Kyle McGee, Hill City, and Brett McGee, Yates Center. He was preceded in death by sisters, Roberta Mossbarger and Donna Jacobs.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the North Topeka Baptist Church. Private family inurnment will be in Rochester Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
