Floyd Vernon Vilvens, 82, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, Aug. 15, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. He was born Feb. 11, 1923 in Wabaunsee, County, Kansas, the son of Joseph Victor and Stella Rosella Johnson Vilvens.
Floyd was a member of the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #172 of Wamego. Floyd was a caring and giving man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He married Ella M. Kenny, Apr. 2, 1949 in Topeka, Kansas. She passed away, Apr. 14, 2001.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter Donna M. Miller, a grandson, Karlan Friesen and a great-granddaughter, Kyla Rae Shaver, three sisters, Viola Vilvens, Bertha Leonard and Vernadine Sakelos, one brother, Walter H. Vilvens.
He is survived by a son, Robert M. Long, Topeka; a sister, Velma Caldwell, Cincinnati, OH; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Interment will be in Topeka Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by a funeral detail from Ft. Riley.
Mr. Vilvens will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug.18, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
