OBITUARY: Floyd L. "Red" Trahoon
Floyd L. "Red" Trahoon, 84, Topeka, died, Sun., June 28, 2009, at Rolling Hills. He was born Nov. 10, 1924, at Rossville, the son of Louis L. and Theresa C. (McConnell) Trahoon. He was a retired auto mechanic and instructor. Red was a member of Mater Dei Catholic Parish; Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; Arab Shrine Temple; Unit Director of Arab Temple Transportation Union; Twin Lakes Shrine Club; Kaw Valley Shrine Club; Moose Lodge # 555; Jimmie Lillard Post # 31, of the American Legion; and Philip Billard Post # 1650, VFW. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1942 and attended Pittsburg State Teachers College. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Red did many hours of volunteer service at Colmery-O'Neil VAMC. He was married to Rose E. McCoy on May 3, 1964, in Topeka. She preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 2003. Surviving are 4 children: Janice Ables, Susan Gaggero, Steven Trahoon, and Floyd Trahoon, Jr., all of Topeka; 3 siblings: Helen Matney of Topeka, Roland Trahoon of Topeka, and Shirley Tregemba of Gladstone, MO; 5 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Thurs., July 2, 2009, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM, and Philip Billard Post # 1650, VFW will conduct services at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Red will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wed., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
