Clem Wade Ferguson
Clem Wade Ferguson, 88, Topeka, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Atria Hearthstone Retirement Home in Topeka. He was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Victor, the son of Oscar N. and Aline W. Tilford Ferguson. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1932 and joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1934. He was sent to Fort Snelling, Minn., where he became a clerk in the finance office. He later became an accountant in the Veterans Administration and in 1949, he helped audit records in various veteran offices and hospitals throughout the western U.S. In 1951, he became finance officer and opened a new VA hospital in Madison, Wis. He transferred to the VA hospital in Indianapolis in 1956, where he remained until retiring in 1971 with 38 years of service. He married Kathryn M. Lindstrom on Jan. 23, 1938, in Northwood, Iowa. She preceded him in death Nov. 3, 1995. Mr. Ferguson also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon A. O Rear, on April 16, 1993; and two sisters, Alma Estelle Wyatt, on Nov. 18, 1984, and Mary Louise Glick, on May 2, 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Whipple, Centennial, Colo.; three brothers, Warner Ferguson, Silver Lake, Harvey Ferguson, Topeka, and Milton Ferguson, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Entombment in Washington Park North Mausoleum in Indianapolis will be private. Mr. Ferguson will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
