OBITUARY: Evelyn Viola Slater
Evelyn Viola Slater, 96, Topeka, died Wed., Jan. 5, 2011, at her home. She was born April 10, 1914, at Osage City, the daughter of Joseph E. and Hannah M. (Lundstadt) Nordling. She was raised on an Osage County Farm. She had worked at Boeing's in Wichita during WW II and at Holiday Beauty Shop in Osage City. Evelyn was a member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at The Topeka Rescue Mission, The Lodge, and Brighton Place. Evelyn was married to Leonard M. Slater on Aug. 31, 1947, at Lyndon. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Adams on April 1, 2003. Surviving are 4 children: Phyllis Slater of Topeka, Judi Alexander (Terry) of St. Marys, Melvin Slater (Kathie) of Meriden, and Rosalyn Slater of Topeka; 7 grandchildren: Hope Alexander Hart of Lee's Summit, MO, Leonard Adams of Meriden, Joseph Slater of Council Grove, Dallas Alexander of Maple Hill, Mellanie Barnes of Topeka, Darren Alexander of Maple Hill, and Philip Slater of Topeka; 4 great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild soon to be born. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Sat., Jan. 8, 2011, at Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church. Private interment of cremains in Meriden Cemetery.
