Evelyn Louise Herring, 74, Ozawkie, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013.
Evelyn was born June 27, 1938 in Topeka, the daughter of Melvin and Dorothy (Reamer) Cathcart.
Evelyn married Eugene Herring on September 19, 1959 in Holton. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2009. Survivors include nine children, Susan Hahn (Mark), Dale Herring (Tricia Merritt), Carol Wadleigh (Richard), Meriden, KS; Lora Kueny (Chuck), Paul Herring (Terra), Scott Herring, Ozawkie; Nancy Calvin (Mike), Marcia Ricklefs (Ray) Topeka, Wayne Herring (Tawnya Parris), Knob Noster, MO; eleven grandchildren; and siblings, Doris Osborn, Lavera Guinn, Charles Cathcart, John Cathcart, Ronald Cathcart, and David Cathcart.
She graduated from Seaman High School in 1956.
She was employed as a rural mail carrier for more than 20 years, retiring in November 2000. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Evelyn was an avid gardener and baker. She loved spending time outdoors, traveling, and visiting with friends and family. Evelyn always put others before herself.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. Evelyn will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1st with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jeff West Education Foundation, PO Box 267, Meriden, Kansas 66512.
