Evelyn Kier

D. Evelyn Kier, 91, Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005 from earthly life to begin her heavenly life as an angel.

She was born July 9, 1914 in Halleck, Missouri to James S. and LouAnna Lamar Johnson. She attended Buchanan County Schools and while in St. Joseph, MO worked as a nursing assistant at Missouri State Hospital where she met her husband Mirl. They moved to Topeka in 1946. In Topeka Evelyn worked for KPL, The Fleming Co and retired from the office of Doctor's Byron and John Ashley. After retirement she and her husband traveled to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe, stopping in Italy to visit her brother's grave. They spent many winters in Texas and Arizona.

Evelyn had held several offices in the auxiliary of the Moose Club that she and her husband had been charter members. She also had been a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Topeka Medical Assistants, and volunteered many hours at the V.A. Hospital and The Lung Association. She was a 45 year member of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death was her husband Mirl, sisters, Esther Aslock, Geneva Redmon and a brother Floyd C. Johnson killed in World War II.

Surviving is a daughter, Karen Stith and her husband Craig, a grandson, Chad M. Stith, and his wife Angela and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Avery of Lee's Summit, MO; a sister Maryle Lupton of Wichita, and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m., at Highland Park United Methodist Church Chapel. Inurnment will be at Turner Cemetery in Faucett, MO at a later date.
