OBITUARY: Eugene Z. "Gene" Wade
Eugene Z. "Gene" Wade, 88, Grantville, died Feb . 14, 2008. Gene was born Feb. 21, 1919, at Ontario, KS, the son of William Z. and Elsie M. Wade. He attended grade and high school in Circleville. Gene served in the 35th Infantry Division in WW II from Dec. 23, 1940 to Oct. 6, 1945. He spent 16 months in Europe. Gene was a member of the Grantville United Methodist Church, Philip Billard Post # 1650 of the V.F.W. and Perry American Legion Post # 142. He was married to Dorothy Daugherty on April 11, 1948, by the same minister who married his parents. His wife survives. Other survivors include a daughter: Kathy Wade Gordon of Topeka; a son and daughter-in-law: Kevin and Cathie Wade of Grantville; a sister: Elsie Wells of Holton; a granddaughter: Jaime Wade of Topeka; a grandson: Tyler Wade of Grantville; a step-granddaughter: Katlyn Selk; a step-grandson: Ryan Selk; and a foster daughter: Jill McMillan and her daughter, Brittny, of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, William and Richard. Gene retired from the Postal Service in Topeka in 1978 with a total of 36 years of Federal Service. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Mon., Feb. 18, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Philip Billard Post # 1650, of the V.F.W. will conduct military honors at Grantville Cemetery. Gene will lie in state after 2:00 PM, Sunday, at the funeral chapel.
