OBITUARY: Eugene Herring
Eugene Herring, 78, Ozawkie, died Sun., Aug. 30, 2009, at Homestead of Topeka.
He was born to Henry E. and Kate M. (Wemmer) Herring on Sept. 12, 1930, in Kit Carson County, CO, near Seibert, CO. He moved with his family to Ozawkie, KS, as a child. He also lived near Williamsburg, KS, during his childhood.
Eugene was a life-long farmer. He farmed near Ozawkie, Meriden, Silver Lake, KS, and Warrensburg, MO. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
He was married to Evelyn Cathcart on Sept. 19, 1959, at Holton, KS.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Evelyn; nine children: Susan Hahn (Mark), Dale Herring (Tricia Merritt), Carol Wadleigh (Richard), Meriden, KS; Lora Kueny (Chuck), Paul Herring (Terra), Scott Herring, Ozawkie, KS; Nancy Calvin (Mike), Marcia Ricklefs (Ray), Topeka, KS; and Wayne Herring (Tawnya Parris) Knob Noster, MO; eleven grandchildren; and two sisters: Letha Rise, Topeka, KS, and Maryetta Teaford , Valley Falls, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Floyd Herring; and two sisters: Opal New and Bonnidell Senn.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Thurs., Sept. 3, 2009, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment in Prairie Home Cemetery. Eugene will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wed., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions made to the Eugene Herring Memorial Fund c/o Kaw Valley Bank, P.O. Box 8009, Topeka, KS 66608.
