Eugene B. "Mac" McDonald, 86, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009.
He was born November 29, 1922 to Richard O. and Nellie E. (Moore) McDonald in Topeka, Kansas where he lived most of his life.
He attended Silver Lake High School. He served in the United States Army during WW II and received several honors for marksmanship and later became a weapons instructor. After he was honorably discharged, he went to work for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he worked until he retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of Rubber Workers Union Local No. 307.
Eugene married Wilma "Jeanie" Hammond on Feb. 16, 1946 in Rossville. She preceded him in death on July 7, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Donald McDonald. Survivors include four sons, Rick (Ramona) McDonald, Tecumseh, Lloyd (Kim) McDonald, Topeka, Ken (Linda) McDonald, Topeka, and Tom (Margaret) McDonald, Berryton; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. McDonald enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening and dancing to his sons' band, The Wagon Masters.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mr. McDonald will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association,4300 SW Drury Lane, Topeka, KS 66604 or to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
