Ethel (Marie) Johnston, 73, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015.
She was born July 30, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Jay and Frances (Bates) Tobias. Marie worked for Shawnee County for over 35 years as a Senior Microfilm Specialist.
Marie married Robert Franklin Johnston on September 23, 1960 in Memphis; he preceded her in death on March 22, 2006.
Survivors include four sons, Jay (Jody) Johnston, Joel (Michelle) Johnston, Jeffrey Johnston and James (Brandy) Johnston; three brothers, James "Bud" Tobias, George "Yank" Tobias and Joe Tobias; three sisters, Sue Jones, Katherine (Jackie) Conner and Dorothy (Robert) Hall; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Helen Tobias.
Marie loved to garden and to spend time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm. on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Topeka Baptist Church, 4500 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date at Half-Day Cemetery in Topeka.
