Esther M. De Long, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on October 12, 1940, in Valley Falls, Kansas in Jefferson County, she graced this world with her warmth and nurturing spirit for nearly 84 years before leaving us to join her heavenly family.
Esther devoted her life to her family, exemplifying the true essence of love and care as a dedicated homemaker. She also worked at Capital Federal Bank in the 70s.
Esther embodied the heart of every family gathering. Known fondly as "everyone's granny," she created a legacy filled with cherished memories. Esther had an undeniable passion for crafting, frequently seen engrossed in crocheting and ceramics, where she poured her heart into each creation. In the kitchen, her magical ability to teach her grandkids and great-grandkids to cook from scratch fostered both culinary passion and familial bonds, passing down traditions that will forever echo through generations.
Her love for life was evident in the simple joys she found. Whether it was enjoying time spent with family or cheering for her favorite KU Basketball team, Esther’s spirit was bright, and her laughter was infectious. She cherished every moment with her loved ones, making those around her feel cherished and supported.
Esther leaves behind her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” De Long, whom she married on December 17, 1958, in Topeka, Kansas. She is also survived by her son, Robert (Julie) De Long, Jr., and her daughter, Barbara (Gary) Criqui. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Dawn (Justin) Villalobos, Matthew (Megan) Hand, Jessica (Christopher) Moore, Joseph Criqui, and Amber (Zachary) Adams, along with her eight great-grandchildren, who will always carry her memory in their hearts. She leaves behind her siblings, Melvin Bouton, Phyllis Simpson, Larry Bouton, and Carolyn Cook, fostering a bond of love and remembrance.
Esther’s journey was marked by the love of her parents, James and Clara (Stanley) Bouton, who have welcomed her to her eternal home. She was preceded in death by her father, James Nello Bouton; her mother, Clara Viola Bouton; brothers, Richard, Jimmy, and Kenneth Bouton; great-grandson, Easton Moore and her infant daughter, Deborah De Long.
To honor Esther’s life and the light she brought into this world, a visitation will be held on October 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Parker-Price & Davidson in Topeka, KS.
