Erwin F. Hippen, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Erwin was born October 1, 1936 in Adams, Nebraska the son of George H. and Rebecca Restina Schmidt Hippen. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1954.
Erwin worked for the Kansas Gas Company for 42 years, retiring in 1989. He also worked for the Topeka Capital Journal as paper carrier, and he also umpired youth sports but manly slow pitch softball in Topeka. He spent many hours participating in the Senior Olympics, participating in softball, basketball, bowling and archery, earning many medals for his sports accomplishments.
He married Ruth Tritt in June of 1955. She preceded him in death June 5, 1991. He was also preceded in death by two sons, David Hippen and Scott Hippen.
He married Pat Tice on September 26, 1992, she survives. He is also survived by one sister, Laura Mort and husband Kenneth of Pawnee City, Nebraska; and one sister-in-law, Charleen Hippen of Lewiston, NE; one son, Michael Hippen of Emporia; step-children, Cindy Carreno of Stillwater, OK, Peggy Tice (Milton Heinrich) of Topeka, Jim Tice (Masha) Yuzhno, Russia and Jeff Tice of Topeka; grandchildren, Sarah Welborn (Thomas) Conroe, in Texas and Nick Hippen in Emporia; twin great-granddaughters of Conroe, Texas, 8 step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn Rd, Topeka Kansas 66604 at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 pm Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Helping Hands Humane Society, First Lutheran Church, Great Lakes Caring Hospice or to Alzheimer’s Association in care of Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, Ks 66608.
