Roland H. Barney
Roland H. Barney ,83, Topeka, died Sunday , July 13, 2003, at a Topeka hospital. He was born on November 21, 1919, in Topeka, to Harry H. and Lena Ottinger Barney. Mr. Barney graduated from Seaman High School. He delivered ice before he entered the Army for World War II. He served in combat at Iwo Jima and Western Pacific . His awards were the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He served as a radio operator( high speed). He owned and operated Topeka Music Co. for many years before he retired. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 1 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1650. He was formerly a member of Masonic Lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M., IOOF Oakland Lodge, where he served as Grand Master and the Carpenters Union. He married Aleta Nina Bosch, Jan. 27, 1942, in Topeka. She died Feb. 16, 2003. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Louis "Marion" Barney. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Wiseman, Topeka; a brother, Ivan Barney, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Gennevive Oroke, Oskaloosa; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Parker-Price Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by a detail from Fort Riley. Mr. Barney will lie in state at Parker-Price Mortuary after 3 p.m. today.
