Ernest M. Thompson, 98, formerly of Topeka, Went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, January 17, 2014 in Tulsa, OK.
He was born June 12, 1915, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of John M. and Christina L.E. (Anderson) Thompson . He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Ernest was employed by the Post Office Supply Center, Topeka, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Thompson was a member of Heather Ridge Baptist Church, Tulsa, Ok and a former member of South Knollwood Baptist Church, Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella Marie (Pfannenstiel) Thompson, and His Parents, John and Christina (Anderson) Thompson.
Ernest married Iva M. Bailey Thompson on April 26, 1941 in Topeka. She went to be with her Lord on February 5, 2004. Also proceeding him in death were 2 sons, Ernest Lee Thompson and John Marvin Thompson Sr; 2 grandsons, Jerry B. Thompson, Jason B. Thompson, Topeka; 1 Great-Grandson, Mark Fredick Thompson; 1 Great-Granddaughter, Iva Mae Thompson both of Omaha NB; 5 Brothers, Oscar, Louis, Lawrence, John, Carl; and 1 Sister, Marie E. Thompson.
Survivors include a Son, Mark A. Thompson, Tulsa, OK; two daughters, Glenda F. Purdie, Harlingen TX and Christina M. Chenoweth, Roswell, GA; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 7 Great-Great Grandchildren; and 1 Sister, Myrtle E. Wilson, Topeka.
Ernest's greatest Joy was spending time with his Children, Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren and Serving the Lord and helping others. He always had a helping Hand.
A funeral ceremony will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Carter, Heather Ridge Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will follow at the Topeka Cemetery. Ernest will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7:00- 8:00 p.m. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Heather Ridge Baptist Church, 6901 E. 91st Street Tulsa, OK 74133.
