Ernest "Ernie" Decock
Ernest "Ernie" Decock, 78, Topeka, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at his home. He was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Mosby, Mo., the son of August and Theresa Cosse Decock. Mr. Decock was the youngest of seven children. He served in the Pacific as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Jayhawk Construction for several years before going into business on his own. Mr. Decock was self-employed as a master craftsman in the art of carpentry. Some of his accomplishments included the design and construction of homes, furniture, cabinets and boats. He married Margaret Irvine on June 21, 1947, in Osage City. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Dennis B. Decock, Maple Hill, and Michael D. Decock, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Martie S. Long and Theresa L. Langhofer, both of Topeka; a sister, Margaret Wambolt, Los Angeles; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Bible Church. Burial will be in Osage City Cemetery in Osage City. Ernest Decock will lie in state at Parker-Price Mortuary after 3 p.m. Thursday, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.funeralchoice.com .
