OBITUARY: Emily H. Corkadel
Emily H. Corkadel , 95, Topeka, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Aldersgate Village. She was born January 19, 1917, the oldest of three children of James A. and Nell M. Neel. She attended a one room school and graduated from Winchester High School. She then taught in a one room school for several years and in later years was a substitute teacher for Unified District 501. She was a bookkeeper for twenty years.
Emily married Clarence Corkadel on December 7, 1945, in Atchison. They lived in Topeka their entire married life. He preceeded her in death on May 15, 2001.
Emily was a member of Northland Christian Church. Emily was an avid reader. She enjoyed embroidering, bowling and making jams and jellies to share with her family and friends. She loved baby animals, especially colts and tiny puppies.
Emily is survived by one sister, Doris Shockley, of Tonganoxie, two nephews, three nieces, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her sister, Mildred Fritz, preceeded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Northland Christian Church. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, at Valley Falls Cemetery. Emily will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Wednesday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
