Elvera L. "Bun" Wehmeier, 92, of Topeka, Kansas passed away April 24, 2023 at Ruble Ranch in Overbook, Kansas.
She was born on November 16, 1930 at the family home near White City, Kansas, the daughter of Fred A. and Orlena (Kohls) Herpich. Elvera's brother used the nickname "Bunny" for Elvera. The name "Bun" stuck for the rest of her life. Elvera graduated from Woodbine High School in Woodbine, Kansas with the class of 1949.
Bun married Gilbert Elton Wehmeier on September 26, 1952. After marriage the two lived in Colorado Springs for a short time. Their son, David E. Wehmeier was born there. They moved to Emporia so Gilbert could continue his schooling. A daughter, Carolyn A. Craver was born while they were living there. They moved to Topeka, Kansas where Gilbert was employed by Topeka Public Schools. Their third child, Jaylene K. McFaul was born in Topeka.
Bun was a stay at home mother while the children were young. She later spend many years working for Burns' Floral Shop in Topeka. She also spent many years hanging wallpaper.
She is survived by her 3 children; 7 grandchildren; and to date, 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bun was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Fred L. Herpich; sister, Florence M. Steely; son-in-law, Jack Craver; and both of her parents.
Visitation where the family will greet friends will be on Monday, May 8, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66604. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. Both Gilbert and Bun will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery to follow services.
