Ellen Shaver Eppler, 97, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 4, 2021.   She was born in Blue Rapids, Kansas on December 30, 1923, the daughter of Jacob G. and Ellen Mae Houtz Shaver.   When she was a year old, they moved to a farm west of Randolph, Kansas.   She grew up there and worked at Newman’s Drugstore.   She married Alan Eppler on November 7, 1942 at Manhattan, Kansas.  Alan passed away in 2004.   Ellen came to Topeka while her husband was overseas during World War II.  She went to work in a battery plant until the war ended.   She and Alan adopted their daughter in 1962 after 20 years of marriage.   Ellen retired from Dibble’s Grocery Co. in 1975 due to poor health.   She was a member of Chapter #100 of the American Legion Auxiliary and served in the Elmont United Methodist Church for over 40 years.   She participated in the Elmont Opry for 11 years and taught Sunday School at the church for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Williams; granddaughter, Rachel Degand and husband Bret; four great grandchildren, Bret Alan, Halle, Delaney and Blake Degand, all of Topeka.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Davidson Funeral Home.   Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka.   The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Davidson Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses, sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home.
