OBITUARY: Eleanor Margaret Modig
Eleanor Margaret Modig, 89, Topeka, died Sat., Jan. 1, 2011, at Lexington Park. She was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Gilbert and L. Margaret (Rogers) Beagel. She graduated from Wilsey High School in 1939. Eleanor had lived in Salina for 17 years before moving to Topeka in 1957. She was a bookkeeper for Pelletier's before retiring. She was married to R.E. "Barney" Modig on July 4, 1948, in Salina. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1991. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers: Joseph, Frank, and Robert; and a sister: Virginia. Surviving are 3 children: Judith K. Chesser (David) of Jal, NM, James E. Modig (Sue) of Berryton, and Joseph G. Modig (Patty) of Lenexa; a sister: Norma McDiffett of Silver Lake; a brother: James H. Beagel of North Chicago, IL; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Jan. 6, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Thurs., at Moss Springs Cemetery, Alta Vista. Eleanor will lie in state from 3:00 to 8:30 PM, Wed., at the funeral chapel.
