Eldon R. Brey, 91, of Topeka passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024. He was born April 27, 1933, in Ozawkie, the son of Jacob and Zelma Lowe Brey. He was raised in Ozawkie and graduated with the class of 1951 from Ozawkie High School. He later served his country in the United States Army. He returned to Ozawkie and was a farmer and rancher for many years. Part of the family farm is where Lake Perry is now. He also owned and operated a tackle and bait store in Ozawkie and owned Oskaloosa Trash Service for over 20 years. He was a 35+ year board member of Rural Water District #7 in Ozawkie. Eldon was an excellent cook, barbequing beef, pork, and chicken from some of the animals he raised. The family has lots of good memories of the meat dishes he served. He was an avid reader and loved to watch Westerns on TV.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Brey; nieces and nephews, Galen Brey, Alan Michaelson, Lisa Ruiz, Steve Brey, Lynn Zywgart, Karen Bodner, Carol Hummel, Roger Brey, Kenton Fox, and Kevin Fox and several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Jacob and Zelma Brey; siblings, Alfred Brey, Ceona Michaelson, Charles Brey, Loreta Zwygart, Dale Brey, and Belva Fox; their spouses, Delores Brey, George Michaelson, Lloyd Zwygart, Dorothy Brey, and Ken Fox; and two nephews, Larry Zwygart and Darrin Fox. He was also preceded in death by his companion of over 20 years, Mary Alice Gallagher in 2014.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 14 2024 at the Ozawkie Cemetery. Parker-Price and Davidson Cremation and Funeral Services in Topeka is assisting the family with his funeral arrangements.
