Eldin Leo Shaw

March 30, 1934 — March 6, 2023

Eldin Leo Shaw, 88, of Topeka, passed away March 6, 2023, at Oakley Place, 618 S.W. Oakley, Topeka, Kansas, 66606.

Eldin was born on March 30, 1934, in Eskridge, Kansas, the son of Leo Warren Shaw and Nellie Mary (Henderson) Shaw. He graduated from Eskridge High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.

Eldin was employed by the U.S. Postal Service at the Western Area Supply Center as a lift operator. He retired in 1992 after 34 years of Federal service.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 400 and a former Moose Lodge member.
Eldin married Fern (Howland) Ullmann on April 1, 1960, in Topeka. They were married for 59 years. Fern preceded him in death on April 30, 2019. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Scott Griffith of Topeka; two grandsons, Dustin (Patty) Griffith of Geneva, IL and Jared (Jessica) Griffith of Overland Park, KS; three great grandchildren, Evelyn and Alexander Griffith of Geneva, IL and Haleigh Griffith of Overland Park, KS.

Eldin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Family meant the world to both him and Fern. He dearly loved Fern and his family and had a giving and caring heart. He had a great smile and fun sense of humor always teasing with family and friends. His sweet nature will leave a special legacy for all who knew and loved him. Spending time with family was fun as he always took time to plan special activities in the backyard for his grandsons and great grandkids. Hunting, fishing, playing pitch, and gardening were activities he especially enjoyed. He cherished the times spent sharing those activities with his grandsons and great-grandchildren. We know that God has most certainly received a special soul who has left us with precious memories and love in our hearts forever.

Eldin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edgar Shaw. Eldin leaves behind several special family members, nieces, and nephews.
