Edward Isaac Searcy

February 4, 1926 — April 29, 2018

Edward I. Searcy, age 92, of Topeka passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka. Edward was born February 4, 1926 on the family farm in rural Shawnee County the son of Roy William and Emma Trostle Searcy.  He was the fourth child born to this union.  He was preceded in death by Roy’s first wife, Rosa Butts Searcy who was taken in the flu epidemic of 1918. Three children were born to this union, Thelma, Lucille and Glenn.  Roy then married Emma Trostle.  Eight children were born to this union, Mary, Dorothy, Golda, Edward, Carl, Pearl, Ray and Eileen.  Edward enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17, serving in the construction battalion (Seabees) and was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII.  He met the love of his life, (Doris) Jean Hobble while attending Seaman High School.  They corresponded during his military service and then married on July 27, 1947.   Edward worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka for over 35 years.  In retirement, he worked with his son, Kent, on the farm, was a sub rural mail carrier, and worked at Kansas Grain Inspection.  After the wheat harvest and the ground was plowed, the family would travel to see extended family and the sights.  Later, Edward and Jean often traveled with grandchildren.  Edward is survived by Jean, his wife of 70 years; children Lynda Czappa, Elaine (Bob) Watson, Wayne (Donna) Searcy, Kent (Sondra) Searcy; a sister, Pearl Wood; grandchildren, Curtis (Glena) Watson, Travis (Jennifer) Watson, Hilary (Kerry) Campbell, Janene (Mark) Den Hollander, Anastasia (Dean) Tomkins-Searcy, Amanda (Searcy) Clark and Kaleb Searcy; step grandchildren, Matt Banka, Rebecca Hernandez; great grandchildren, Zachary, Katelyn, Allyson and Alexis Den Hollander, Lesley, Henry, and Oscar Watson, Morgan and Anna Campbell, Colton and Ashtyn Tomkins-Searcy, Brent Clark and Tallis Searcy.

Memorial services will be Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, who’s care the family greatly appreciated, and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.  davidsonfuneral.com
