OBITUARY: Edward F. Johnson, Jr.
Edward F. Johnson, Jr., 83, Topeka, died Wed., Oct. 4, 2006, at his home. He was born June 30, 1923, at Topeka, the son of Edward F. and Elsie May (Myers) Johnson.
Ed was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He retired as a Captain from the City of Topeka Police Department after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Kansas Police Officers Assoc.; Fraternal Order of Police; Golden Rule Lodge # 90, A.F. & A.M; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; Arab Shrine Temple; Topeka North Post # 400, of the American Legion; and Philip Billard Post # 1650, V.F.W.
He was married to Bernice Schultz on Aug. 11, 1944, at Ft. Pierce, FL. She preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 1998.
Surviving are 4 children: Tom Johnson of Berryton, Linda Lincoln of Tecumseh, Steve Johnson of Lawrence, and Denise Appelhanz of Topeka; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Mon., Oct. 9, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence. Golden Rule Lodge # 90, A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic Services. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Ed will lie in state at the funeral chapel after 1:00 p.m., Sunday, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
