OBITUARY: Edward James Price, Sr.
Edward James Price, Sr., 84, Topeka, died Fri., April 27, 2007, at his home. He was born Feb. 7, 1923, at Topeka, the son of James Edgar and Elsie Jesse (Bundy) Price. He was reared in southwest Topeka.
Ed served in the U.S. Navy from Feb. 17, 1944 to May 1, 1946, during World War II. He served in Guam, Saipan, and Tinian and was part of Task Force 7. He was a survivor of the USS Hull DD350 and was lost at sea for 73 hours. He was a Union Pacific Yard Master for 32 years and a member of the Yard Masters' Union. He was a member of Capitol Post # 1650, V.F.W. and Moose Lodge # 555.
He was married to Iris E. Basel on May 27, 1948, at Topeka. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, David Michael "Mike" Price, on July 10, 2005; his parents; and siblings, Clyde Edgar Price, Elwyn Price, and Doris Fern Day.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter: Sherry A. Neely of Sturkie, AR; 3 sons: Edward J. "Jim" Price, Jr., Eldon R. Price, and Brian K. Price all of Topeka; 4 sisters: Ina Lou Martin of Brookville, and Irene F. Roberson, Alice E. Kadous, and Olga L. Thompson all of Topeka; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Tues., May 1, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. A U.S. Navy Detail will conduct military honors at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth. Ed will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
