Eddie E. Howerton, 88, of Topeka passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025. He was born July 23, 1936 at Quinter, Kansas the son of Marion and Goldie (Hayes) Howerton. Eddie was raised there, attending school in Quinter until the family moved to Topeka. He finished high school graduating from Highland Park in 1955. Eddie worked in high school supporting his siblings while they grew up.
After high school he worked a concrete job until being hired on at Goodyear. Eddie worked at Goodyear for over forty years before retiring as well as working his cattle on his farm in Jackson County. He enjoyed fishing years ago and working on cars. Eddie was an accomplished talker. He would visit with anybody anywhere. But foremost he was a devote Christian. Eddie loved to read his bible, to himself or out loud. He was dedicated to his church and would help out however he could. He lived his faith, supporting them spiritually however he could. He also seemed to pass his faith along at the right time and moment to help out family and friends.
He was married to Dorothy Darlene Bradley on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1960. Together they raised their grandson Kevin beginning in 1988. She passed away on December 16, 1993.
He shared his life with Virginia Richmond for 22 years, continuing to raise Kevin Fitzgerald. Virginia passed away on June 10, 2016. He later married Jan Ellis Howerton in June of 2015. She preceded him on January 24, 2024.
Survivors include his daughter Debbie Mumert (Will) of Topeka; four grandchildren, Jennifer Luck (Walker) of Topeka, Michelle Hutchinson (Scott) of Wellsville, Kansas, Jackie Pido of Leavenworth Kevin Fitzgerald of Topeka; three stepdaughters Terry, Topeka, Tracy, St. Louis, and Lynda, Florida; six great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and two siblings, Bill Howerton of Topeka and Violet Williams of Mobile, Alabama. He is survived by his cat Gracie who he loved and cared for so much he wouldn’t give her up for a million dollars.
Eddie is preceded in death by three children, Robert, Ed Renee who both died in infancy and Brenda, eleven siblings and a grandchild, Brandy Drescher.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until the service hour of 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Parker-Price and Davidson Cremation and Funeral Services, 245 NW Independence, Topeka Ks 66608.
