Echo Ann Carter, 87, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at a local hospital.
Echo was born February 13, 1922 in Auburn, the daughter of John and Emma (Cregut) Kelly. She graduated from Auburn High School and attended Clark's Business School.
She was employed as a secretary for the State of Kansas, Department of Transportation for 30 years, retiring in 1987. She also worked at Henry Manufacturing, Pepsi Cola, Boys Industrial School and Seymour Foods.
She enjoyed fishing, bowling, and raised Pekingese dogs. She was a passionate KU, Royals and Chief's fan. She would be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.
She lived on a farm south of Valley Falls for 45 years with her husband, Ralph. She shared the last three years of her life at Drury Place where she regularly attended Sunday church services and enjoyed various activities with her friends.
Echo married Ralph T. Carter on December 24, 1941 in Topeka. He died April 8, 2006. Survivors include sons, Robert (Sue Ann) Carter, Valley Falls, Ralph "Ed" (Michele) Carter, Topeka; daughters, Dona (Ron) Brown, Topeka, Candy (Tom) Frenn, Topeka; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; brothers, Lester Kelly, Floyd (Karen) Kelly, Leonard (Norma) Kelly; and sister, Evelyn (Al) Rush. She was also preceded in death by brother, Bob Kelly and grandson, Trent Stanhope.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. Burial will follow at Auburn Cemetery. Echo will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 pm on Tuesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
