Earl Richard Castleberry
Earl Richard Castleberry, 86, of Grantville, died Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born December 20, 1931, at Osawatomie, the son of Clarence Edgar and Beulah Malease (Cole) Castleberry
.
Earl graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army (active) from March 1953 to January 1957, serving in Berlin, Germany; and in the National Guard from 1957 to 1991, retiring as a Staff Sergeant.
Earl worked at the Boys Industrial School as a head cottage parent living on campus with his family from 1959 to 1981. He owned and operated Earl's Café at Grantville from 1984 to 1992, retiring in Grantville.
He was a long-time member of the Grantville United Methodist Church, Grantville.
On June 1, 1952, Earl was married to Naomi Mae Fields at Osawatomie, Kansas
.
Surviving are his wife: Naomi Castleberry of the home; three daughters: Deborah Kirkham (Calvin) of Topeka, Cindy Mongold (Terry) of Perry, and Cherry Vaught (Gene) of Mayetta; seven grandchildren: Julie (Chad), Lisa, Jammie (Marc), Nick, Lacey, Brian, and Casey; sixteen great-grandchildren: Carley, Cortlyn, Camryn, Justise, Jillian, Aspen, Oscar, Olivia, Lane, Kason, Lennox, Clayton, Abbey, Reid, Olivia, and Kyle; and a great-great-granddaughter: Ollis.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 16, 2018, at the Grantville United Methodist Church, 3724 South Street, Grantville. Interment will be in Grantville Cemetery.
Earl will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thursday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
