OBITUARY: E. Howard Tolle
E. Howard Tolle, 94, died Tues., Oct. 2, 2007, at his Holton, KS, residence. He was born May 25, 1913, at Lindly, MO, the son of Ernest and Nancy (McBurney) Tolle. He was reared in the Lindly-Galt communities. Howard lived in Topeka for 63 years before moving to Holton, Jan. 1, 2004, to live with his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kathy and Monty Tyler, and their three children.
Prior to the 1951 flood, Howard worked at John Morrell Packing. He then farmed and had served on the Shawnee County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was a prominent member of the North Topeka Community. He was a member and former Deacon of the Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ; the church's Men's Fellowship; a 60 year member of Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM; and a life member of the Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies.
He was married to Veda Lee Burress on March 24, 1934, at Milan, MO. She survives of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law: Darlene and Bill Mastin of St. John, KS; a son: Ken Tolle of Elmont, KS; 2 sisters: Velma Page and Tressa Merrill both of Chillicothe, MO; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Fri., Oct. 5, 2007, at Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ, 2036 NW Taylor, Topeka, followed by Rose Croix Services conducted by Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies. Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM, will conduct Masonic Graveside Services at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Grove. Howard will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Thursday, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
