Dustin Lee VanWagoner, 29, of Hoyt, passed away on May 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family after a very hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born on May 29, 1993 to Richard and Shelli (Schnacker) VanWagoner in Holton, Kansas. Dustin graduated in the class of 2011 from Royal Valley High School. He played football and did track and field but his favorites were wrestling and powerlifting. These sports, his coaches, and many other family members/friends shaped him into the strong, determined, hardworking man that he grew up to be.
On Sept 17th 2016, he married his middle school sweetheart, D'Neal Jenson. Dustin was an amazing husband, best friend, and soul mate to D'Neal for almost 17 years. His greatest accomplishment in life was marrying his best friend and later the birth of their daughter, Austyn. His favorite thing was spending time with Austyn, even if that meant dressing up in princess crowns and jewelry. He was an incredible father and his legacy will live on through her forever.
Dustin was employed with Union Pacific Railroad as a track laborer for 5 years. He loved his job and all the co-workers he met along the way. He never met a stranger, everyone he met he saw as a friend and would do anything for them. When he wasn't traveling for the railroad or spending time with his family, you could find him shooting guns, hunting geese, deer, turkey, or even Elk - thanks to Dr. Ficek, Lindsay, and the Outdoor Adventure Foundation. He enjoyed spending time with his wiener dog Koko, making knives, working on DIY projects, or spending time with all of his friends with a can of Busch Latte in his hand. Dustin was a jack of all trades. His love for DIY will forever be around their home. From his wood working projects to D'Neal's favorite porch swing bed at their new home they built together shortly after his diagnosis. Dustin was a follower of Christ and an active member of Lighthouse Bible Church.
Dustin is survived by his loving wife, D'Neal; their daughter, Austyn VanWagoner; parents, Richard and Shelli VanWagoner; siblings, Christopher (Lindsay) Boyer, Dakota (Kayla) VanWagoner, Jacob VanWagoner, Daniel VanWagoner, and Jessica VanWagoner; paternal grandmother, Carol VanWagoner; uncle, Dave Schnacker; aunts, Caren Schnacker and Traci Schnacker; cousins, Zach, Noah, Hannah, and Erica Schnacker; nieces, McKenzie and Blayke VanWagoner; nephews, Rhein VanWagoner and Finnegan Coones; mother-in-law, Michelle Jenson; father-in-law, Darren Jenson; and sister-in-law, Ashley (Jamie) Coones.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ma & Pa.
