Dorothy Alice Root

October 7, 1929 — November 30, 2018

Safe in the arms of Jesus, Dorothy Alice Frey Root left her earthly bonds behind surrounded by those who love her on Friday, November 30, 2018. She was born October 7, 1929, the youngest child of John L. and Fairy B. (George) Frey. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1947, and married her high school sweetheart, Albert Earl Root, on January 9, 1948. They celebrated 70 years of a loving and caring marriage together in their own home. Dorothy was a long-term member of Bethel Community Church. She was a farm wife, a seamstress, a great cook, and loved to garden and to can the fruits of her labors. She worked at Capital Federal and Hilltop Packing.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandi (Robby) Corbin; Sherry Hertlein and Lesa Frantz. Her beloved grandchildren, Allison (Brandon) Nelson, Robyn (Brian) Devlin, Collin (Sara) Corbin, Kristen Hertlein, Kerri (Nate) Czarnecki, Kyle (Katherine) Hertlein, Summer Frantz and Ariana Frantz, her adored great-grandchildren, Aspen, Gate, Chloe, Sierra, Ashlyn, Savannah, Corbin, Hayden Albert, Caleb, Kylee, Rowan Fairybelle and one arriving later this month; her sister, Doris (Neal) Prochaska, sister-in-law, Hazel Eslinger and countless friends and relatives.

Her husband, parents, sisters Irene Kolde, Georgia Bentley, and Helen Kirkwood, brother John Earl, and infant grandson John predeceased her.

Dorothy was known as a hard worker. She was fiery, feisty, and quick-witted, always thinking of others to the very end. She was dearly loved and will be forever missed.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery. Dorothy will lie in state from 12 noon until 5:00 pm. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Cir, Topeka, KS 66606 or Bethel Community Church, 6944 NW Landon Rd, Topeka, KS 66618.
