Dorothy May (Strecker) Hanes, 89, of Topeka, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024.
She was born October 28, 1934, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob and Martha Strecker. She graduated from Russell High School.
Together her and her family enjoyed trips to Wyoming to visit her brother. They also enjoyed going on family trips. When her husband passed away, she was able to continue some sightseeing trips around the US and Canada.
She worked at JCPenney’s and Montgomery Ward as a cashier over the years.
Dorothy enjoyed bowling, reading and watching the Royals.
She went to First Lutheran Church for several years.
Dorothy married Loy "John" Hanes. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly Joy Magee; sister, Jan Nichols and brother, Larry Strecker; daughter in law, Kathy Hanes; grandchildren, Jessica Hanes, Jared Hanes, and Justin Hanes and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jeff Hanes and siblings, Donna Schneider, Elton Strecker, and Leon Strecker.
A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas 425 N Main St, Russell, KS 67665. Burial to follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.
