Dorothy Dean (Chamberlain) White, daughter of Elsie Jane (Claunch) Chamberlain and Evert Lee Chamberlain, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 14, 2015 in North Topeka surrounded by family. Dorothy was born in Topeka, Kansas April 28, 1926. She attended Seaman High School in North Topeka.
Dorothy received her nursing certification from the Army Cadet Nurse Corp at Cushing Memorial in Leavenworth Kansas. Her nursing career included work in hospitals, private duty and nursing home administration. Dorothy married John White on Dec 3, 1946, in Lansing Kansas and they enjoyed 55 years together, until John's death in June 2001.
Mrs. White was a member of the Wheat Hearts Square Dance Club and attended Elmont United Methodist Church. She and John were former members of the Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Association.
Survivors include sons Charles White and Phillip White of Topeka, Kansas and Ken M. White and husband John Linscheid of Philadelphia, PA. Other survivors include her sister Olive and Olive's husband Harold Weisheim of Saginaw, MI.
She was preceded in death by her brother Don Chamberlain and his wife Marjorie. She also leaves many dearly beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1pm, Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Dorothy will lie in state after 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Private family interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery.
