Dorothy I. Bower was called home to heaven on Sept. 8, 2017 after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Dorothy was born in Stella, Nebraska August 21, 1937 to Harold and Velma Montgomery.
She attended school in Stella, Nebraska and Topeka, Kansas.
Dorothy retired from Kansas State Printing Office and was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, and 50 year member of Topeka Camping Club.
She also loved to cook, camp, attend flea markets, travel, and spend time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy married Bernard Bower April 26, 1956. He survives.
Other survivors include two sons Ernest (Melinda) Bower of Trinidad, Colorado, and James (Dawnda) Bower, of Topeka, Kansas; her grandchildren Jeremiah, Timothy, and Darrin Bower, of Colorado, as well as Brandon, Bryson, and Chelsea Bower of Topeka,Kansas, and 3 great-grandchildren as well as a sister Joyce (Duane) Neiswender, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol Christensen, brother Charles Montgomery, and granddaughter baby Tiffany.
Dorothy will lie in state after 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 11 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Cremation will follow the visitation and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 12 at Highland Heights Christian Church, 2930 S.E. Tecumseh Rd. Tecumseh, KS 66542 with burial to follow in Zion Cemetery in Tecumseh.
