Dorothy Lucille Bervert, 99, of Topeka, passed away, Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Gardens of Aldersgate.
Dorothy was born April 7, 1925, in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Schwartz) Bervert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, James Bervert and Andrew Bervert, her sister, Irene Young, her sisters-in-law, Doris Bervert and Lois Bervert, and her brother-in-law, Truman Young. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Dorothy loved animals, especially dogs and cats. Her pets were her "babies" and meant the world to her. I guess you could say that her favorite people were animals. Although she kept a meticulous house, it wasn't unusual for the cat to be up on the kitchen counter or tearing around the living room.
Dorothy was a hard worker. Much of her working life was spent at Jostens Printing and Publishing where she worked for over 30 years before retiring. Once retired, Dorothy spent much of her time with her sister-in-law and best friend, Doris Bervert. They loved to shop together and were both snazzy dressers. She also enjoyed visiting with neighbors, and of course, tending to her animals. She was dedicated about taking her dog, Candy, on a long walk every day.
Dorothy grew up in the Catholic Church and her faith was an integral part of her life. She was an active member of Most Pure Heart of Mary
Catholic Church and belonged to other Catholic Churches in the Topeka area throughout her life.
She was proud of her German heritage and grew up the oldest of four siblings in a small, close-knit community of immigrants in North Topeka known as Little Russia. It was always a special occasion when she and her mother made traditional German Krautstrudels for all their family and friends.
Dorothy will be missed by those who held her dear.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, May 2, 2024, in St. Vincent's Chapel (1800 SW Stone) at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
