Dorla Bowers

Dorla Catherine Bowers passed away on December 25, 2022, peacefully in her home in Sarasota, FL. She was formerly a resident of Topeka, KS. She was a beautiful person who cared deeply for her family. She lived a full life of 92 years and will be missed greatly.  Dorla was born July 23, 1930 in Simla, CO to her late parents Jay and Lura (Bennett) Boyer.

She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn Bowers; son Kevin Juedes; sisters Donna Murray, Arnita Masenthin, and Arletta Fredickson; and brothers Cecil Boyer and Clifford Boyer.

She is survived by three sons, Steven (Nancy) Juedes of Allenspark, CO, Kurt (David Starnes) Juedes of Sarasota, FL, Michael Bowers of Topeka, KS; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Dorla enjoyed reading romance and mystery novels and spending time with her family.  She started working as Sheriff Jim Chaffee's secretary and was deputized for Shawnee County in Topeka, Kansas from 1965-1967 where she met her second husband Glenn Bowers and later married him on September 1, 1967.  She was later employed in Shawnee Country District Court as secretary/bailiff for Judge Michael Barbara for several years.  While working for the district court, Dorla obtained a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.  After the judge retired, Dorla worked a short time for the State of Kansas doing clerical work then she went to work as a clerk in Federal Bankruptcy Court until she retired in 1994.  After Dorla's retirement, she worked part time for several years for the Kansas Legislator while in session filing legislative bills.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the First Christian Church located at 1880 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka Kansas.  Visitation will be at 1:00 pm. and the memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm, so her family and friends can gather in her honor.  Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery located at 3427 NW Menoken Road, Topeka, Kansas following her memorial service.
