Doris Jean Serene, 80, Grantville, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Midland Hospice House.
Doris was born September 19, 1937 in Mulberry, KS, the daughter of James Benjamin and Mary Marguerite (Hoots) Jones.
She graduated from Mulberry High School in 1956.
She was a homemaker for many years and in 1973 she began her career as a barber at the North 75 Barber shop. She retired in 1986.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies of the Moose, and Needles & Knots at the Grantville United Methodist church.
Doris married George L. Serene on September 14, 1957 in Miami, OK. Her husband of 60 years survives. Other survivors include daughters, Jean (Tim) Tibbits, Meriden, Mary (Chrystal Dye) Serene, Grantville; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and a sister, Connie Grenier.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
