Doris Faye Fordice Davis, ninety, of Topeka, Kansas died February 14, 2018 at Brewster Place. She was born April 3, 1927 at Smith Center, Kansas on a farm and moved to Topeka in 1936 with her family. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1945.
Doris married Lewis "Elmer" Davis September 30, 1945 at the Hoyt United Methodist Church. They had three children: James L. Davis (Linda); Judy K. Donnelly (Patrick); and Marvin A. Davis (Julie) all of Topeka, Kansas. Other survivors include seven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Davis; brother, Bernard "Bub" Fordice; sister, Willna Zweifel; and her parents, Russell and Eunice (Parnell) Fordice.
Doris worked several years at Security Benefit Life as a secretary. She later became a cook for the Seaman School District where baking was her specialty. She made many delicious hot rolls, cakes, and cookies for the students and faculty at Elmont, East Indianola, Northern Hills and Seaman High Schools.
Doris and Elmer had a farm north of Topeka for many years. Doris enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, making crafts and helping Elmer in the field. She loved a party and had many family get-togethers including picnics, wiener roasts, birthdays, and holiday celebrations. Doris also enjoyed dancing with Elmer and their friends at Croco Hall on Thursday nights. Together, they danced into their late eighties and claimed that dancing kept them young.
Honoring her request, Doris was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will be in Hoyt Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas, Topeka, KS 66608.
