Donavene Brian Liggett

August 4, 1925 — February 27, 2015

Donavene Brian Liggett, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 at a Topeka hospital. She was born August 4, 1925 in Topeka, the daughter of William and Beulah Wood Brian. She and her sister, Geraldine spent their early childhood on the plains of western Kansas. The family moved back to Topeka where Donavene received her education in the local schools and later attended Washburn University. She was married to Charles Liggett in 1942 just prior to his entry into the Army for service in WWII. A daughter, Charlene, was born to Charles and Donavene while Charles was serving a three year hitch overseas. Two years after Charles returned from overseas, a son, William was born. Donavene and Charles were married for 65 years. Charles preceded her in death on September 28, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Widigan.

Her family was the biggest joy in her life - each person unique - each person special - each person a source of pride - each person the love of her life.

Donavene began her work life in her mother's family business and later was the manager of an Army hospital post exchange. She was an assistant manager and buyer for a children's wear store and in 1962, she went to work for the State of Kansas where she worked 23 years prior to retirement.

Donavene researched, authored and published twelve family history books, a book of poetry, a compilation of nine generations of women's writings, and a book on stroke life.

She was a member of The Mayflower Descendants Society, several local, regional and national historical and genealogical societies, and a past member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution. She was a 25 year member of the Mid-Day Chapter of the American business Women's Association.

Donavene is survived by one son, William B. (Linda) Liggett of Topeka, one daughter, Charlene (Liggett) Rose of Grain Valley, MO, six grandchildren, Brady Liggett, Erica O'Brien, Todd Rose, Brian Rose, Kristie Wyble and Angie Schnetzer, fourteen great-grandchildren and her four legged best friend, Kiki.
